Clifton UMC Stands for LOVE!

Clifton United Methodist Church is proud to stand in love and support with our pastor, David Meredith, as he weds his partner of nearly three decades, Jim Schlachter.

As a Reconciling Congregation, we believe God’s love is expansive and universal and we welcome all people – even when this calling brings us into conflict with the by-laws of our United Methodist denomination. We struggle when we see the denomination we love promoting ideas that inhibit this spirit of inclusion, particularly the Book of Discipline’s discriminatory language calling homosexuality “incompatible with Christian teaching.” We believe discrimination is incompatible with Christian teaching – and that obedience to God and our Scripture calls us to stand for love and to stand against discrimination and exclusion in all of its forms.

We hope to spark conversation, dialogue, and grace-filled reflection on how the United Methodist denomination can respond to the movement of the Spirit.
